Dr. Rudolph Tanzi is the Joseph P. and Rose F. Kennedy Professor of Neurology at Harvard University, and Director of the Genetics and Aging Research Unit atMassachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Tanzi has been investigating the genetics of neurological disease since the 1980s when he participated in the first study that to use genetic markers to find a disease gene (Huntington's disease).

"My research is primarily aimed at identifying and characterizing Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-associated gene mutations/variants with the ultimate goal of defining the molecular, cellular, and biochemical events leading to neuronal cell death in the brains of AD patients. A significant portion of AD is caused by the inheritance of defective genes, while specific gene variants can increase lifetime risk for the disease."
