Amongst White Clouds

American
director Edward A. Burger takes us on his unforgettable journey into
the hidden lives of China's forgotten Zen Buddhist hermit tradition.

Amongst
White Clouds is a look at the lives of zealot students, gaunt ascetics
and wise masters living in isolated hermitages dotting the peaks and
valleys of China's Zhongnan Mountain range. The Zhongnan Mountains have
been home to recluses since the time of the Yellow Emperor, some five
thousand years ago.

Many of China's most realized Buddhist
masters attained enlightenment in this very range! And now? It is widely
thought that this tradition was all but wiped out by the twists and
turns of history. Amongst White Clouds shows us this is not the case.

One
of only a few foreigners to have lived and studied with these hidden
sages, Burger reveals to us their tradition, their wisdom, and the
hardship and joy of their everyday lives.

With both humor and
compassion, these inspiring and warm-hearted characters challenge us to
join them in an exploration of our own suffering and enlightenment in
this modern world. (Excerpt from amongstclouds.com)

Art by Alton Kelley

Leading Artists

The leading artists of the 1960s psychedelic art were the poster artists in San Francisco. Rick Griffin, Wes Wilson, Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, Bonnie MacLean, Victor Moscoso were some of the most influential artists and all of them, at some point, created album covers for the psychedelic rock music of the 60s. Although San Francisco was the focal point of the movement, it began to gain speed and popularity internationally, with bands seeking artists from all over the world to design psychedelic album covers for their records.

You have more than likely seen the album cover for Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon album. The cover was designed by George Hardie and Hipgnosis. Hipgnosis also designed album covers for T. Rex, AC/DC, Electric Light Orchestra, and Led Zeppelin.

As the movement progressed, other mediums also began to use LSD and other psychoactive drugs as an influence. Comics, light shows and even advertising became a part of the psychedelic art movement. The one you have probably seen is the 1968 advert for Campbell’s Soup.

Economic Reality

Mary Oliver, born in 1935, American poet

MESSENGER

My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird —
equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.

Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me
keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work,

which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.
The phoebe, the delphinium.
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all ingredients are here,

which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart
and these body-clothes,
a mouth with which to give shouts of joy
to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,
telling them all, over and over, how it is
that we live forever.

~ Mary Oliver, born in 1935, American poet

Newly Diagnosed

Reading blogs and twitter accounts of people with m.s. several trends become apparentm lik rsolutions to fight the affects of the disease.

People newly diagnosed with m.s. make many statements about fighting or standing up to m.s.  having experienced those emotions but finding there is little to be done to avoid the crippling affects of the disease, so the best advice is to remain active while it is possible and to make plans for your future....

Identify what is important to you and  structure your time to travel or whatever while you have the energy and are physically able.... with m.s.
